28 April 2025, Pansar Engineering Services in collaboration with ASHRAE student members at Swinburne University of Technology in Kuching, conducted a career talk titled “Exploring Building Facility Management and Careers.” The session aimed to introduce students to career and networking opportunities in our engineering industry. The event attracted students from various engineering backgrounds interested in learning more about the building Facilities Management and Maintenance (FMM) sector.
The session began with an opening presentation by an ASHRAE student representative, who introduced the ASHRAE student chapter and shared what they do as a professional community, such as offering technical resources, developing industry standards, and serving as a networking platform for engineering students and professionals.
Following this, Mr. Eric Phan, General Manager of Pansar Engineering Services, presented the background of Pansar and Pansar Engineering Services. He shared our company’s history and its range of engineering services. This was followed by an introduction to Facilities Management and Maintenance (FMM) by Mr. Ahmad Mustaqim, Facility Manager of Borneo Cultural Museum, who explained its definition, goals, and scope, as well as maintenance strategies and technology adoption.
After that, Mr. Chai Yu Kiong, Facility Manager of Pansar, then delivered a brief presentation on sustainability within the FMM sector, highlighting key practices such as improving energy and water efficiency, and promoting recycling. These measures were accompanied by expected outcomes.
The next session moved on to career opportunities, where Ms. Glory Ling, Senior Human Resource Executive, highlighted engineering job roles, scopes, available opportunities, and the application process at Pansar. During the Q&A session, Mr. Neil Tiu, Human Resource Director, responded to students’ queries about building a future career in the engineering sector. Adding a practitioner’s perspective, Mr. Zulhusni, Mechanical Engineer, then shared his experiences in the field and the practical aspects of his role.
As a gesture of appreciation, ASHRAE student representatives presented certificates of appreciation to the speakers and expressed our gratitude for the valuable insights shared during the session. The event concluded with refreshments, networking opportunities, and a lucky draw session.
