Another new milestone was reached for Pansar, as we tapped into the defence and military industry. DRB-HICOM Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd, officially known as DefTech, is a Malaysian defence contractor involved in the development, manufacture and supply of armored and logistic vehicles for the Malaysian military and homeland security.
DefTech, a wholly owned subsidiary of DRB-HICOM established its armored vehicle production in Pekan, Pahang in 2001. Between 2011 and 2014, DefTech upgraded its infrastructure, equipment and manpower to prepare for the development and production of the AV8 Gempita. The DefTech AV8 Gempita is an amphibious multirole armored vehicle developed by DefTech with the assistance of Turkey defence company FNSS. The Gempita resembles some of the Turkey FNSS Pars design and technology. To date, there are 257 units of Gempita powered by Deutz engine TCD2016 V6 produced by DefTech.
