Pansar, Yanmar team up for high-speed engine

The Borneo Post – January 14, 2011

SIBU: In a close collaboration between Pansar Bhd (Pansar), Yanmar Group and the local shipbuilding industry, the first 12AYM high-speed marine engine from the latter is being commissioned here.

The environment-friendly 12AYM engine, which is International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Tier II compliant, meets the stricter emission standards imposed by the IMO.

After extensive research and development for this category of main engine, Yanmar rolled out its first pair, which have since been fitted onto the Coral Island 1, a fast passenger ferry that is currently being refurbished at a local shipyard.

“Our Pansar partners have shown a high level of discipline and commitment in ensuring the best for their clients and we are proud to be in Sibu to lend our expertise in the commissioning of this latest high speed marine engine,” said Fujkimoto, who is manager for customer satisfaction in Yanmar’s engineering department.

Yanmar Asia Singapore Corporation’s managing director Naoya Umegaki also dropped in at the shipyard to get a first hand account of work progress.

Accompanied by Pansar Bhd’s managing director Jason Tai, Umegaki spent more that two hours going through details and inspecting the engine room with engineers from both Yanmar and Pansar.

Umegaki pointed out that Yanmar was proud to collaborate with Pansar and the local shipbuilding industry in the commissioning of the engine.

“We have confidence in Pansar and the local shipbuilding industry’s expertise, hence Sibu was an obvious choice for us in the commissioning of this latest engine,” he said.

According to him, the Coral Island 1 was the first vessel in the world to be fitted with the latest high speed marine 12AYM engine from Yanmar. After its sea trial and commissioning, it will be operating from its home port of Langkawi.
